‘The Glassworker’ is an effort of determination, and director Usman Riaz is overjoyed to be nominated.

Riaz claimed that creating “The Glassworker” for Geo Films took him ten years. This hand-drawn animation feature is groundbreaking. In order to produce Pakistan’s first animated feature, we at Mano Animation Studios had to start from scratch with the infrastructure.

Directed and written by Khizer Riaz and co-writer Moya O’Shea, the film was produced by Manuel Cristobal (Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles) and centres on Vincent (Sacha Dhawan) and his father Tomas (Art Malik), whose tranquil existence as owners of a glasswork shop in a small town is upended by a conflict that sweeps down from the north.

When Vincent develops feelings for Alliz (Anjli Mohindra), a gifted violinist and the daughter of the recently assigned colonel (Tony Jayaward), the relationship between the father and son is put to the test. Where tradition would reject Vincent and Alliz’s love, their passion for one another and their creative souls are an insult to a harsher sensibility motivated by patriotism.

“This is Pakistan’s official Academy Awards selection,” Riaz told Geo News. In 2014, at the age of 23, I began this. We spent six years training individuals. Such a film has never been produced in Pakistan. At the time, the idea of hand-drawn animation was nonexistent. A great deal of interest in animation has resulted from it. The Donkey King is an excellent example of Pakistani computer-generated animation. Because hand-drawn animation involves drawings, it takes a long time.

After receiving an invitation to talk at the Ted in 2012, Riaz’s career took off. “I was chosen for the Ted Fellowship in 2012 and performed on a guitar for the audience,” he stated. They observed my distinctive style of guitar playing.
